Laboratory Analyses

At Blackbourn Geoconsulting we offer a range of laboratory analyses. Due to the nature of the techniques, some of these analyses are sub-contracted*, but, all interpretative work is undertaken in-house. Analyses available include:

SEM Examination: Including EDS analysis and photomicrography (undertaken by Blackbourn Geoconsulting on a rented machine)

  • XRD Analysis*: Whole rock and clay fraction, including preparation
  • Heavy Mineral Analysis*: Point count of minerals separated by disaggregation, sieving and heavy liquid flotation. Includes decalcification if required
  • Sieve Analysis: Poorly consolidated sand or silt. Includes sorting through six or more screens, weighing and plot of results, and stereomicroscopic examination of different size fractions
  • Stereomicroscopy: Descriptions of rock chips or washed cuttings

Please contact us for other types of analyses not mentioned.
